Furniture contracts: four payment milestones that protect your money

The most important question when signing a furniture contract is not how much, but when you pay.

Transferring 70% at signing is common, and it also removes your leverage at the outset. If quality falls short, you are negotiating from a position where the money has already gone.

A sensible structure

Decori splits payment into four milestones, with a 20–30% deposit at signing and the balance staged. The principle matters more than the numbers: the workshop is paid only after you accept each milestone.

The difference is who holds leverage. With a final payment outstanding, fixing a small defect is routine. Once everything is paid, it becomes a favour.

Four clauses to settle before production

Itemised scope and per-item pricing. Not a single total. A lump-sum quote leaves you unable to drop anything when the budget needs trimming.

A date for each milestone. Specific dates, not "about six weeks."

A late penalty. This clause is rarely invoked, but its existence changes how seriously the schedule is taken.

Warranty scope. Decori covers 24 months for material or workmanship defects, handled through a customer portal with a response within 48 hours.

And one thing usually skipped

Which workshop is building it? Decori selects and assesses each partner workshop's capability before it takes an order, with clear responsibility per order. Asking this before signing saves a great deal of time later.
